Video 4:BIM-based building permit: Accessibility, operational safety & information retrieval use cases in FI

Content description

This training material provides an overview of the use cases 1, 2 and 4 tested in two demonstration buildings in Finland. The first use case covers the retrieval and handling of general official information about the building and the construction process.

The second and fourth use cases cover Accessibility and Operational Safety compliance checking. The ACCORD rule formalisation tool translates building code parameters into machine-readable rules so the model can be checked against the building code

regulations (Compliance checking). Use case 3 is the whole life cycle carbon (CO2) calculation tool presented in another training material.

Target group

This training material targets building authorities, architects and applicants.

  Learning objectives

  • Knowledge of the ACCORD demonstration on the tools for retrieving official information from BIM models and compliance checking tools for accessibility and safety.
  • Understanding Finnish use cases 1,2 and 4 methodology and services set up.
  • Awareness of the challenges and opportunities from the feedback given by authorities and architects.

 Author

  • Markku Kiviniemi, Senior Scientist at VTT
  • Pasi Paasiala, Principal Architect at Solibri
  • Ilkka Mattila, Chief Innovation Officer at Cloudpermit
  • Anna-Ritta Kallinen, company owner at Arkcon

Video 5:BIM base building permit – Whole life cycle carbon (CO2) calculation use case – Demonstration cases in Finland and Estonia

Content description

This training material provides an overview of the Use Case 3 about the whole life cycle carbon calculation tool used in the demonstration buildings in Finland and Estonia. The tool checks if the whole life cycle carbon footprint is lower than the requirement in the regulation.

Target group

This training material targets building authorities, policy makers, standardisation bodies, architects and applicants.

Learning objectives

  • Knowledge of the ACCORD tool on whole life cycle.
  • Understanding Finnish use case 3 methodology and services set up.
  • Awareness of the challenges and opportunities from the feedback given by authorities and architects.

Video 6:Automating compliance checks of structural components - Demonstration Case in UK

This training material provides an overview of the Use Case 3 about the whole life cycle carbon calculation tool used in the demonstration buildings in Finland and Estonia. The tool checks if the whole life cycle carbon footprint is lower than the requirement in the regulation.

This training material presents the UK demonstration case from the ACCORD project, focusing on automating compliance checking for structural components in modular steel housing. The approach integrates semantic web technologies, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to verify structural integrity against Eurocode standards. The demonstration showcases a workflow that combines BIM-based inputs with open-source FEA tools, enabling automated compliance verification through a web-based interface.

Target group:

This training material targets Structural engineers, BIM professionals, Modular construction manufacturers, Regulatory bodies, and building control authorities, Researchers in construction informatics and digital compliance.

Learning objectives:

  • Knowledge of the workflow from BIM model validation to automated compliance reporting
  • Understanding the approach for integration of semantic web technologies with BIM and FEA for automated compliance checking.
  • Awareness of the potential for scalability and adaptability of the approach to other regulatory domains and construction methods.

Authors:

  • Dr. Ioannis Christovasilis, Aether Engineering
  • Dr. Lorenzo Riparbelli, Aether Engineering
  • Dr. Panagiotis Patlakas, Birmingham City University
  • Prof. Franco Cheung, Birmingham City University
