On May 14, 2025, ACCORD partners hosted the third and final webinar in their series. The session, attended by 32 participants, provided an opportunity to explore the outcomes of the ACCORD project through training materials tailored for policymakers, field professionals, and standardization bodies.
The training materials presented during the event focused on several key aspects, including the ACCORD Use Cases demonstrated in partner countries, a comprehensive landscape review and trends survey, as well as the process mapping and roadmap methodology for implementing BIM-based building permits. All materials, along with the webinar recording, are available on the ACCORD e-Learning HUB.
A survey conducted during the webinar revealed that most participants believe the training materials could be further enhanced. Suggestions for improvement included addressing topics such as GEOBIM integration, urban data models, standardization requirements, IDS templates, and EU-level recommendations. Notably, all participants indicated that they intend to use the training materials in their future work.
The survey also highlighted participants’ views on the potential of BIM-based building permits. Many agreed that such systems could reduce errors, enhance project quality, and streamline the permitting process by minimizing initial application time and negotiation efforts. However, the main challenges identified for implementation were the high initial investment cost and the need for clear guidance, outweighing concerns about training or hiring new personnel.
The session also fostered a rich discussion on the current state of standards being converted into machine-readable documents and emphasized the importance of collaboration among professionals from various disciplines.
Although the webinar series has concluded, ACCORD partners continue to refine the project outcomes in preparation for the final seminar, The Future of Digital Building Permits: BIM-Powered Tools and Methods, scheduled for June 19 in Brussels.
