UK – Design integrity of structural components

The UK demonstration will focus on automating the compliance checking of design integrity of structural components for steel modular houses. Three standards are in focus: 1) EN 1990. Eurocode 0: Basis of Design, 2) EN 1991. Eurocode 1: Actions on Structures and 3) EN 1993-1-1. Eurocode 3: Design of Steel Structures.

The real-life project will be selected based on a case of light weight cold rolled steel modular home. The automated compliance check will use the BIM model for the steel structure provided by the modular home manufacturer, Hadley Group.

The demonstration will draw on the combination of BIM-based inputs and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The analysis execution will be done on open-source FEA software and the reporting on a web-based front end. A new App (front-end) will be developed to communicate with existing compliance checking tools (back-end) by ACCORD partner AE, an engineering practice specialising in custom software solutions for the structural engineering domain. AE’s Structural BIM Viewer will be used as a specialist tool for an open-source structural workflow.
